FlexChem Synthesis System
Perform Solid Phase Reactions in Polypropylene Blocks Designed for Chemistry
The FlexChem Synthesis System consists of specially designed, 96 and 48 well polypropylene deep well filtration blocks sealed with removable top and bottom covers. A selection of sealing gaskets and a variety of accessories are available.
A central challenge in providing a useful system for performing parallel chemical synthesis is designing a multiple reaction vessel that can be effectively sealed and can withstand the harsh conditions normally used. FlexChem Reactor Blocks are heavy-duty polypropylene multi-chamber blocks with design features that make them ideally suited for chemistry applications. A molded ring around the opening of each chamber ensures a leak-free seal is formed when pressed against gasket material. Synthesis chambers also have rounded corners to prevent solvent “creep” that occurs in standard deep well blocks.
A porous polyethylene frit press fit into the bottom of each chamber retains resin and prevents “wicking” between adjacent wells. In addition, to ensure complete recovery of cleavage products without cross contamination, the bottom of each chamber is molded into the shape of a nozzle that directs samples into collection plates using a FlexChem Vacuum Manifold. FlexChem Reactor Blocks are available in 96 well (2.4ml/well) and 48 well (5.6 ml/well) formats with a choice of fine or medium porosity frits. Reusable reactor blocks made from Teflon are also available for the ultimate in chemical resistance. All FlexChem Reactor Blocks can be conveniently heated and mixed using with the FlexChem Model 404 Rotating Oven or Model 202 Ambient Rotator.
Independently Removable Sealing Covers: The Key to the System
All versions of FlexChem Reactor Blocks are sealed using a patented design (*) that provides independent removal of top and bottom sealing covers for adding resins and solvents without leakage. Sealing covers are made from anodized aluminum with a choice of removable flat gaskets with different solvent resistance. (See gasket chemical resistance chart for details). Sealing covers are secured by attachment to a metal collar that surrounds the midline of the block. Two cover attachment systems are available. One uses a series of spring clamps that permits quick attachment and removal of covers wi thout tools. A second system, preferred by some laboratories, uses a hex bolt in each corner of the cover that screws into an attachment collar. Both top and bottom covers of either design maintain a microplate footprint for compatibility with commercial liquid handling systems.
Compatible with all FlexChem Equipment and Accessories
FlexChem Reactor Blocks are compatible with all FlexChem accessories and equipment. Removal of solvents and collection of cleavage products can be performed using FlexChem Vacuum Manifolds. Solid reagents can be added to all chambers of the blocks using FlexChem Resin Loaders. Heating and agitation of up to four sealed reactor blocks can be performed using the FlexChem Model 404 Rotating Oven or the FlexChem Model 202 Ambient Rotator.
