FlexChem Resin Loaders
Fast, easy loading of resin into FlexChem blocks
The FlexChem "Flip" Resin Loader is designed for loading dry reagents into an empty FlexChem polypropylene or Teflon® reactor block. The loader consists of a flat, anodized aluminum plate with 96 depressions that hold resin in locations corresponding to the wells in the block. The volume of the depression defines the amount of resin that will be deposited into each well .
Four "Flip" loaders are available. For these versions, the size of the holes in the plate was chosen for delivering 25, 50, 75 or 100mg of dry silica. Please note that when used with a different material, the loader must first be calibrated to determine the amount of resin that is delivered per well. This is accomplished by weighing the loader before and after filling the holes with resin to determine the total resin on the plate, then dividing by the number of wells to calculate the amount delivered per well.
Using the "Flip" Loader
The dry resin to be used is evenly spread across the surface of the plate so that the holes are evenly filled. Excess resin is then swept off the end of the plate into a weigh boat or similar container for future use. The FlexChem block to be filled is inverted and positioned onto the plate using the vertical sides on the loader to register the block to the 96 holes of the plate. The entire assembly is then quickly inverted so that the resin falls into the wells and onto the frits at the bottom of the block .
Using the "Trap Door" Loader
To use the "Trap Door" loader, it is first positioned on top of a FlexChem block that has the bottom cover attached to seal solvent or reagents inside the block. The resin to be added to the block is then distributed among the 96 wells of the loader using an acrylic scraper, with excess resin swept off the end of the loader into a suitable container. The final step of depositing the resin is accomplished by aligning the 96 wells of the resin loader and block, pushing the "trap door" slide, and allowing the resin to drop into the wells of the block below.
The "Trap Door" loader is similar to the "Flip" style loader except the 96 wells that hold the resin extend through the plate. A two-position slide mounted below the plate prevents the resin from falling out during loading. Moving the slide then allows the resin to drop into the wells of the FlexChem block below. "Trap Door" loaders are available in four sizes for delivering 25, 50, 75 or 100mg of dry silica. When loading different material, the loader must be calibrated using the same method as described for the "Flip" style loader.
