Model 400 Hybridization Oven

Precisely Controlled Mixing for Efficient Hybridization

An exclusive feature found on all SciGene hybridization incubators is the use of a rotator that holds the tubes tilted and offset from the axle. The geometry of the system results in movement of the probe solution from one end of the tube to the other as rotation occurs. The resulting rigorous washing action allows the use of only a few milliliters of labeled probe solution for greater hybridization efficiency and eliminates the need for messy separating meshes. The speed of end-to-end movement of the probe is regulated by a rotary dial which adjusts the rotator speed from 2 to 20 RPM. To conveniently position the rotator for adding and removing tubes, a "jog" switch can be pressed to momentarily move the rotator position when the door is open.

Rotators and Accessories for a Variety of Uses

The Model 400 hybridization oven comes standard with a rotator that holds ten long (300 mm) or twenty short (150 mm) tubes. A complimentary 35x300mm glass tube is provided. Additional glass tubes and caps can be purchased separately.

For long transfer membranes, a rotator that holds six large (75x300 mm) bottles is available. Three special rotators hold 80x50 ml, 200x15 ml or 400x1.5 ml capped tubes respectively. For heating and rotating containers and racks, a general purpose rotator holds items securely to a rotating platform using springs and clamps. A speed rocking platform for heating and mixing solutions is also available.

Easy Calibration with a Digital Thermometer

To ensure accurate oven temperatures, the performance of the controller can be periodically checked. To perform a calibration, an optional NIST certified digital thermometer (Cat. #1051-52-0) is connected to a jack on the oven. Complete calibration instructions are available.

For High Capacity Sample Processing

The Model 400 Hybridization Incubator [Cat. #1040-60-1] is uniquely designed with a passive heating system to provide precisely controlled temperatures within the incubator chamber. Sturdy rubber strips with embedded heating wires surround and heat the stainless steel chamber. The warm air within the chamber is then circulated through movement of the rotator to ensure temperature uniformity.

A precision controller regulates the temperature to ± 0.1°C and displays both set and actual temperatures. An external jack connected to a probe within the chamber can be attached to a digital thermometer for temperature calibration and instrument certification.

Special attention has been given to the design of the hybridization oven chamber and door to ensure an airtight and watertight environment. The stainless steel interior is constructed without seams along the bottom to prevent solution leakage in the event of a spill. A removable stainless steel pan is provided for easy cleanup of drips and minor spills.

The heavy duty, dual-paned, tempered glass door has a seamless gasket and levered latching system to prevent the escape of heated air from the chamber. The Model 400 Oven is designed for use with borosilicate glass tubes that resist breakage and provide effective radioisotope shielding. A specially designed cap made of extremely durable PBT plastic with an integral silicone o-ring provides a reliable, long-lasting seal.
