Solutions for Illumina BeadChips

Solutions for Illumina BeadChips

Overview

Illumina’s recommended manual post-hybridization processing of BeadChips for gene expression is a seven step procedure that takes over an hour of technician time to perform and requires a collection of laboratory equipment and supplies including staining dishes, waterbaths, a rocking platform etc. Once set up, the multi-step procedure can be technically challenging with the need to monitor and time wash buffer temperature and staining conditions. The length and complexity of the manual method provides multiple entry points for variability in data and consumes valuable time. SciGene instruments automate the complex manual steps recommended by Illumina for performing gene expression studies using BeadChips for improved assay reliability and lowered cost.   Processing Illumina BeadChips on the Little Dipper Processor

Technology

SciGene provides instruments that work together to automate the workflow used in Illumina BeadChip based assays including sample labeling and post-hybridization processing. The ArrayPrep™ Target Preparation System is a reagent handling and incubation platform specially designed for performing amplification/labeling of samples for analysis on BeadChips. The Little Dipper® Processor automates IIlumina’s recommended protocols for washing and staining BeadChips, presenting slides ready for scanning.

Case Study

Joe De Young

“I am the manager of a microarray core facility that provides genotyping and gene expression services to clients using Illumina BeadChips. As our sample volume increased, I became concerned about maintaining sample turn around time and overall data quality with our limited manpower. This led me to look at new approaches to streamlining the Illumina BeadChip processing workflow in an attempt to limit technician hands-on time and reduce the potential for mistakes. One of the more important steps we have taken to address these needs is the incorporation of the Little Dipper® Processor from SciGene into our operation to automate all of the post-hybridization steps for both gene expression and genotyping BeadChip applications. In addition to its positive impact on productivity, we have found the instrument to be flexible, reliable and easy to use.”

- Joe DeYoung, Microarray Core Facility Manager
