Success Story

MicroFISH Assay System

Our lab provides a full-range of clinical cytogenetic services with an emphasis on high quality results and fast turnaround times. In 2014, we began working with SciGene with the goal of streamlining our cellular FISH workflow and reducing our reagent costs per test. We thought the MicroFISH Assay System, then in development by SciGene, could be the answer.

We received early access to MicroFISH technology and clinically validated the system using MicroFISH slides and SciGene equipment, including the CytoBrite Slide Incubation System and Little Dipper Processor. The system has met all of our expectations. It requires only 1μl of cells per hybridization which conserves precious samples. More importantly, it uses only 1 μl of probe solution per test reducing our costs by 75%.

The MicroFISH system is now in routine use in our FISH lab running up to 100 blood cell and bone marrow samples per day. Our technicians really love the easy method using a single slide to process up to 8 FISH hybridizations and the consistency of hybridization quality provided by the automation, thus reducing set up time and simplifying scoring.

MicroFISH Assay System

The MicroFISH Assay is a simple system for performing cellular FISH panels that uses a single slide with 1 µl of cell sample and probe solution per hybridization. The MicroFISH System allows technicians to set up slides in a fraction of the usual time and saves as much as $400 in probe reagent per panel.

MicroFISH Assay Highlights:

  • Simple workflow
  • 1 µl probe and sample
  • 1 to 8 probe hybridizations
  • No pretreatment
  • One coverslip
  • No rubber cement
  • Cuts probe cost up to 90%
  • Reduces hands-on technician time > 75%

MicroFISH Core System

Only two instruments are required to get started with the MicroFISH System:

  1. CytoBrite PLUS Slide Incubation System - only CAP-compliant hybridizer with 12 temperature sensors
  2. MicroFISH Hybridization Oven - boosts probe signals on MicroFISH slides transferred from the CytoBrite PLUS

Automated Post-Hybridization Wash (Optional):

After probe hybridization, use the Little Dipper Processor to automatically shake off coverslips and wash slides with FISH Wash Buffers 1 and 2 and then dry with the on-board centrifuge; ready for counterstaining and visualization.

Convenient FISH Wash Buffers:

For post-hyb slide washing, use FISH Wash Buffer 1 (0.4xSSC/0.3% IGEPAL, pH 7) and FISH Wash Buffer 2 (2xSSC/0.1% IGEPAL, pH 7) in convenient 4L containers with flow control spouts. Both pH and ionic strength are tested and certified for each lot. Ready-to-use buffers eliminate manual dilutions and tedious pH adjustment. Certficate of Analysis (CoA) included.
